The crew was founded by Vartan Bassil and Kadir "Amigo" Memis in Berlin in 1993. -
This is what the backstage passes looked like in 1993. -
In 1998 they released the single "Super Sonic" together with EDM act Music Instructor. It was sold more then 250,000 times. -
In 2000 the Flying Steps won the International Battle Of The Year for the second time after 1994. -
In 2005 they won the Red Bull Beat Battle and became world champion once again. -
On June 25, 2007 the Flying Steps opened their own dance academy in Berlin-Kreuzberg. -
In 2007 the Flying Steps won another world championship – the Red Bull Beat Battle. -
In 2010 Red Bull Flying Bach had its premier at Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin. -
In 2014 the arena show Red Bull Flying Bach followed & premiered at Tempodrom in Berlin.
The Flying Steps were founded by Vartan Bassil and Kadir „Amigo" Memis in Berlin in 1993. Only one year later they won the Battle of the Year (BOTY) for the first time. And that was just the beginning.
Another milestone in the history of the quadruple breakdance world champions was the establishment of the Flying Steps Academy in Berlin in 2007. Today it is the biggest urban dance school in Germany.
In 2010 Flying Bach was born – the company's first in-house production. Only shortly after it was followed by the show Flying Illusion, which premiered in Berlin's Tempodrom in 2014. With both productions the Flying Steps have excited live audiences of more than half a million. The rest is history...
The Flying Steps Academy
The Flying Steps Academy is Germany’s largest urban dance school, with 75 instructors, 20 different dance styles, and over 2,500 students. Located in the heart of Berlin, the next generation of urban dancers has the opportunity to train on 2,000 square meters with some of the best instructors in the scene.
The extensive course program covers all modern dance styles – from Hip Hop and Breakdance to Popping and Locking, as well as Afro House, Contemporary Dance, Ballet, and special classes for our youngest dancers.
Since 2024, the Flying Steps Academy has operated at two locations, expanding to four locations by 2025, enabling more than 4,000 students to be taught each week.
